Finger Extentsions

Finger extension sample. Made from Brown tape and wooden sticks.

I think this is effective because the tape blends in to the hand it looks like an extension of it. Also the tape kept the sticks in place and helped maintain the sturdiness of the fingers therefore making it easier to wear and use.

However if i was to make the finished final version i would make it out of latex to give it a skin-like quality so it looks more convincing as a finger.

Finger Extentions

I was given the word Stilts to make a response to. I initially begun looking at stilts but then i started to look at extensions on the body not just the legs.

I begun looking at work by Australian based performance artist. I found his work was heavily based on the capabilities of the human body.  i was inspired by his work entitled The Third Hand in which his made a bionic arm attachment that he could control.

I want to design nails strong enough to dig holes into the ground. This could be a piece worn for a performance for a villainous character.

Individualism

Clay Face

clay face piece. This is supposed to put across the idea of having multiple persona's and qualities all of which we may not see at first but in this piece is revealing itself.

I think it works well as i feel the concept can be clearly  read from this. However i think it could have been simpler and i'm not sure if clay would be the best material to wear on a face as it can be quite heavy and uncomfortable.

Conceptualism

After Researching images on Minimalism, Conceptualism, Modernism, Abstract and Digital art i decided to make a piece in response to the research i had collected from conceptualism. The collage above was inspired by a photographer Gordon Magnin who made collages from the faces of celebrities which he did to distort the way we process images from mas media. In my collage i took the face of a smiling person and mixed it with someone who was melancholic to show that persons inner sadder persona.

Insect Masks

These are insect masks made in response the Franz Kafka book the metamorphisis.
In the book the lead character greg turns into a dung beetle therefore begun researching different types of beetles and insects.
I came across some african beetles at the Huntarian Museum of Zoology, i liked the colours and the patterns of them and as a result i looked at african textiles which inspired the final masks.
I decided to make two makes because i felt in the book Greg's parents were the real insects for allowing their son to starve to death. Therefore these are masks made for his parents.

Hedgehog Armor

Hedgehog Armor.

I made this with foil and toothpicks.

I think this looks effective because the triangular shapes look very sharp and fierce and a lot more threatening.
